The class visited Alsey Refractories this week where they were offered a rare opportunity to explore how a long-standing, rural manufacturing business can remain competitive, innovative, and community-rooted. Located in Scott County, Alsey Refractories exemplifies the strategic importance of geography, natural resources, and local identity in sustaining a manufacturing legacy. It also offers compelling lessons for future leaders in balancing tradition, innovation, and regional stewardship. (And their fire brick ends up in some pretty cool locations…like the launch pad at NASA and Naval ships!)

Thank you to Alsey Refractory staff for their time!
